Mimosas and Pancakes

It can’t happen every day, I know, I know, but a warm October Sunday brunch with your girlfriends in the East Village in the sleepy prenoon hour is a gift. As was the holiday Monday brunch with Nick and his family, walking Caper through the safely fenced woods of Prospect Park. She’s a Brooklyn Terrier, for sure.

That Summer Feeling

Western Massachusetts in February

Heading home for the weekend, whoo boy it’s a bit complicated, but I am anticipating some delicious food. Attending my late mother’s Gourmet Club in the house I grew up in- the theme is Presidents. What should I wear?
It’s a bit early in the season for maple syrup, unfortunately, but I’m thinking we can get some pancakes even though the sugar houses aren’t yet boiling. (too bloody cold)

The clams are great- with strong unsweetened new england iced tea. skip the shrimp, scallops, roll, and onion ringsThe clams and unsweetened N.E. iced tea are great. Don’t bother with the onion rings, shrimp or scallops.

Eat Records: Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Oh, my beloved Eat Records made the Times!  Congrats to Jordan and the makers of the most delicious artisanal egg sandwiches ever.  Nate and I schemed over these in our weekly world library domination meetings.  Who cares how slow the waitresses are when they wear such short skirts?  Not us.

A & J King Artisan Bakers, Salem MA

Beverly and Salem scare the hell out of me. They are totally haunted. However, there are great people doing good stuff. Like these bakers in downtown Salem. The counter lady was very patient with me and my dog in a bag (“What? There’s no dog here. That’s just a furry growth under my armpit. Please don’t mention it, I’m very self conscious.”) And the bread was delicious.

Woodstar Cafe, Northampton

miranda at the woodstarMy brother works at this cafe in the renovated firehouse in Northampton.  They have fanatically good and huge baked items and beverages.  Yum.  There are always Smith professors hanging out here.  Miranda and I were like, well, I guess we could live in Northampton and it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
