Nate sent over this great TED video talk by Elizabeth Gilbert on genius and creativity. She talks about the immense pressure that we put on our artists by saying they are geniuses instead of saying that genius is something many people can tap into. The genius pressure can be emotionally crippling and leads to the loss of many wonderful people. I’m thinking especially of David Foster Wallace, who I adore and who carried a very heavy burden in expectation for himself and who is now gone.
